Affordable & Seamless Music Editing
Ask any film critic what element of a movie is most often overlooked—but is most likely to undermine the artistry of every other component of a film—and they’ll tell you: sound.
And whether our judgment is conscious or not, we’ve all seen it and had some reaction: the best dancer at a competition can suffer from performing to music that’s clearly and/or poorly edited—perhaps it’s a stutter due to a lack of a clean transition, or maybe it’s that cutting a verse rather than splicing verses together means the lyrics no longer make sense.
You spend hours working to perfect technique, and spare no expense to ensure that the costume, hair, and makeup serves the piece being performed. So why not make sure that the soundtrack to each dance is as carefully considered as the other components of the work?
I’m Sven, and I’ve been editing music for competition dance for ten years (and composing/performing original scores for my husband’s Brooklyn-based dance company for eleven years). Altering any song—but particularly one that is well-known—is likely going to trip people up; that’s why you need a perfectionist (who also happens to deliver lightning-fast turnaround times) to ensure that the sound is as thoughtfully crafted as every other part of your dance.

something about how i can do original music and/or covers of songs as well?
Various (Commercials, Podcasts)
Here are some more samples of instrumental music I provided to commercials, as well as theme songs submitted to the podcast Lovett or Leave It (I have been a sound designer/engineer/mixer for various other podcasts, but these selections showcase varied production work, with vocals). Some of these never made it to air, or ended up being the client’s second choice—thankfully, they still paid for my composing and producing time even the full project didn’t come to fruition.
Music For Live Performance/Film (Dance, Immersive Theatre)
The vast majority of my music for dance can be seen on Bandcamp (or by clicking “Shop” above) or any number of streaming platforms under the name Ex-Fiancée—Mausoleum, Exit Strategies, and A Willful Host are music from works by ChrisMastersDance (presented at Brooklyn Academy of Music, Triskelion Arts, and La MaMa Experimental Theatre, respectively). Veiled Threat was a three-hour-long immersive dance-theatre production at Fengchao Theatre in Beijing with a score playing throughout eight distinct sound zones over four floors.
The following playlist is music for other dance works and films that have not been released for public consumption.
Covers (Trust Me)
You can find a ton of covers on my social media accounts—it’s @exfianceemusic everywhere. But for consolidation’s sake: Here’s a smattering of covers—some are live, some are in-studio, some are with guest vocalists, some aren’t, some are mashups, some are straightforward…
My treatment of these songs is very rarely anywhere close to the original, which brings out new resonances that I do believe are novel and worth exploring (and—if I may say so myself—would generally lend itself well to placement in ads or otherwise).
