Commissioned Music

When it comes to the commercials (vs music for live performance, or covers, etc.), here are a few general notes:

First off, these are all the result of countless rounds of revision, and typically the process only began after presenting the client with 3–5 options based on their brief and desired tone. Each of these projects hired me on contract with a very quick turnaround. In some cases, these campaigns were internal, or else discontinued after a period of time, which is why there are some examples that lack full links and video components.

These samples run the gamut in terms of style and genre, which is part of why I genuinely find projects like this to be deeply fulfilling. If you’ve heard my own music, whether solo or created for a dance company, you’ll recognize from the beginning of the first video below that commercial composing stretches me beyond my usual aesthetic—and if you know anything about my approach to craft and intention, you’ll recognize that that is precisely the sort of challenge I seek out in my work.

Let’s get on with it.

Brad Lander NYC Mayoral Campaign Launch 2025

Created an original score for the launch video for Brad Lander’s challenge to Eric Adams in the NYC Mayoral Democratic Primary in 2025, in less than 24 hours. Directed by Frank Eaton.

Bankrate

A write-up about the Bankrate rebranding campaign I worked on as writer and editor, driving their top-priority keywords to the top of Google’s search results, in additiion to composing and producing the music for all of the video spots, including the one embedded below.

$$$$ They Didn’t Teach You

A video series for Bankrate featuring the likes of Tan France from Queer Eye and Matt James from The Bachelor, talking about the biggest money mistakes they made, and what they want people to learn from those mistakes. In addition to composing the theme song, I worked with their tight budget to provide them a scoring a solution that would require me to be in the editing room with them—I provided them 100+ tracks of various sections and instrumentations of the extended theme song, which allowed them to slot in the tracks at will and create their own score.

Vudu

When Vudu was owned by Walmart Media Group, I worked on several campaigns for them, chiefly focused on targeting Walmart’s top advertisers to increase their ad spend.

The bulk of these videos were presented at live events for C-level executives from their top advertisers—events for which I also wrote the vast majority of the speeches from WMG and Vudu executives. This is, to the best of my knowledge, the only example that remains.

Various (Commercials, Podcasts)

Here are some more samples of instrumental music I provided to commercials, as well as theme songs submitted to the podcast Lovett or Leave It (I have been a sound designer/engineer/mixer for various other podcasts, but these selections showcase varied production work, with vocals). Some of these never made it to air, or ended up being the client’s second choice—thankfully, they still paid for my composing and producing time even the full project didn’t come to fruition.

Music For Live Performance/Film (Dance, Immersive Theatre)

The vast majority of my music for dance can be seen on Bandcamp (or by clicking “Shop” above) or any number of streaming platforms under the name Ex-Fiancée—Mausoleum, Exit Strategies, and A Willful Host are music from works by ChrisMastersDance (presented at Brooklyn Academy of Music, Triskelion Arts, and La MaMa Experimental Theatre, respectively). Veiled Threat was a three-hour-long immersive dance-theatre production at Fengchao Theatre in Beijing with a score playing throughout eight distinct sound zones over four floors.

The following playlist is music for other dance works and films that have not been released for public consumption.

Covers (Trust Me)

You can find a ton of covers on my social media accounts—it’s @exfianceemusic everywhere. But for consolidation’s sake: Here’s a smattering of covers—some are live, some are in-studio, some are with guest vocalists, some aren’t, some are mashups, some are straightforward…

My treatment of these songs is very rarely anywhere close to the original, which brings out new resonances that I do believe are novel and worth exploring (and—if I may say so myself—would generally lend itself well to placement in ads or otherwise).

Parting Words

In addition to NDAs precluding me from sharing most of my work, there are several sensitive things I have worked on that I’ve chosen not to include on this public webpage (e.g., full performances of dances I’ve scored for creators other than my husband, etc.). Should you require work samples of those types of works, reach out to me, and I’ll be happy to provide them.

Finally, if you’re curious about my writing and communications career, you can find samples of that work and more information at this webpage. And if you’re interested in my own solo music (as of Dec 2024, unreleased—so I’m trusting you not to share it widely), then you can find that material at this private webpage.
